English
It is a goal of the FKHS English department not only to prepare our students for careers and pursuits that require good communication skills, but also to instill in them an appreciation of literature and the performing arts. As teachers of the humanities, one of our obligations is to broaden the interests, the thoughts, the understandings, and the empathies of our young people so that their lives and the lives of those they touch will be richer.

Social Studies

The social science department provides a wide variety of courses aimed at broadening the thinking, decision-making, and citizenship skills of our students, the next generation of decision-makers in our community, state, and country.  Our goal is to provide them with the opportunity to develop a broad based background, through study, research and interaction with others, and combined with the other core departments, a deeper understanding of the humanities

Science

The science offerings at FKHS are designed to offer the student a strong foundation in the fundamental sciences with introductory courses and advanced levels of biology, chemistry, and physics. The department is not only concerned with the factual bodies of knowledge, but with fostering the ability to apply the scientific method in solving problems and appreciating how knowledge has expanded through the application of these principles.
The science program is designed to encourage independent investigations through laboratory experiences. We hope our program also offers the student a sense of excitement that stimulates curiosity and a desire for learning more about the world in which we live.
Our Science Department has a combined teaching experience of 93 years!

Foreign Language

Field Kindley Memorial High School boasts a three language department.  The department teaches French, German, and Spanish at both first and second year levels.  Often enrollment is high enough for a Spanish III class as well.  Foreign language enrollment has risen to over 250 students in the past few years, making it a much sought after elective.  Each year, the department hosts contests for Foreign Language Week in early March, and also sponsors the French/German and Spanish Clubs.  Each year the department endeavors to bring the outside world, its languages, and its cultures to Coffeyville, hopefully making it a less xenophobic place.

Special Education

The Special Education program at FKHS, through Tri-County Interlocal, believes that all children can learn, and it practices the guiding principles of children first, respect for all, teamwork, excellence and quality, and commitment to the individual needs of each student.  Our Special Education Team is composed of three inter-related educators, one special needs educator, one gifted educator, one vocational educator, 10-12 paraprofessionals, and one inclusion facilitator.  Each recognizes that the most important principles in educational decision making for students with disabilities are individualization and appropriateness.

NADO Alternative School

NADO is a program of Field Kindley High School designed in order to recover dropouts and service students who need a different approach to meeting the Standards devised by the district, which you can find on the district web page.  Our clientele includes all kinds of students.  Some are here because they have accumulated too many absences and thus have failed to attain the proper number of credits to achieve graduation in a timely manner.  Some are here due to special circumstances such as long-term illness, parenthood, or an untimely move to the district. In sum, we service students who have not been successful elsewhere.
English Language Arts, as with other subjects at NADO, is approached through performance and not seat time.  The students work at his or her individual pace.  The instruction can be individualized, cross-curricular, and may include outside sources such as the community, the local government, or other adults that can offer ways for the student to learn and meet the Standards.
Our approach is a simple one.  We address each student's academic needs. We educate and prepare our students for the world.  All things are possible here at NADO.
