Opt-Out of Finals Program

Field Kindley High School will provide an enthusiastic, safe and positive learning

Environment so that all students achieve success as measured by local, state, and/or national standards.  The school will provide the resources necessary to meet these goals including a challenging and relevant curriculum.

 

Opt-Out of Finals Purpose:

The purpose of the Opt-Out of Finals Program is to improve assessment scores and student achievement.

Opt-Out of Finals Program Criteria:

1.      Test Scores – Tied to achievement testing

a.       A score at or above the 50th percentile rank on the Fall MAPS  test must be achieved in BOTH Math and Reading.

b.      A performance level of proficient or better on the state assessment test in the areas of math or reading (Spring Semester*)

2.      Grades – must have 70% or better in the class.

3.      Discipline – No Out of School Suspensions

4.      Attendance – No unexcused absences, four (4) or more excused absences in any one class will require finals to be taken in all classes, medical (doctor’s note required).  Activities absences and funeral absences are not included in this count.

Opt-Out of Finals Program Guidelines:

1.      A student that has met the necessary criteria and is exempt from finals, may choose to take the final in one or more classes without the outcome hurting their grade.  The final would only help the student who is already exempt from taking finals.

2.      Advisory Period will be considered two separate periods and Advisory absences will count towards the attendance in the Opt-Out criteria.

Opt Out Criteria Clarifications:

*    The following testing schedule will be used to determine performance levels.  This list is subject to change depending on the availability of the tests:

·        Juniors – 10th grade KS State Reading Assessment Test and Fall MAPS

·        Sophomores – KS State Math Assessment Test for spring and Fall MAPS

·        Freshmen – A+ Pre-Assessment State Test in spring and Fall MAPS
