Information About Me

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THE HAWK

You are now entering “The World of the Hawk”.  Our only purpose here is the LEARN, and that is always the standard by which we will measure what is going on.  You are in my house.  In my house we live by the standards I set.  At home, or work, or in other parts of this school, or of your life, you, or someone else, may set the rules and standards, but here, I SET THEM.

What will you need for this class?

Your textbook

1-inch Three Ring Notebook with a set of one fifth cut dividers in it

Black/blue/ purple pen and/or a #2 pencil (NO OTHER COLORS ACCEPTABLE)

Your planner

How is your grade determined?  Points are assigned for each assignment/examination/project for the entire semester.  The total you get divided by the total number possible will yield a decimal grade, which is then converted to a percentage and the grade scale in your handbook is then applied.  When you check your grade [or your parents do] if there is a “zero”, it means that I have graded that assignment for the class, and you have not turned it in yet for whatever reason.  You need to get in RIGHT AWAY and make that work up.

There are many standards in this class, but only one absolute rule “DO RIGHT”.  If you do that everything will work smoothly for all of us.

The above information is what your student hears when they walk in my door.  The notebook is their major tool, and is a repository for their notes, returned papers, projects, handouts, and work in progress.  Their planner is a place to organize their assignments.  Their textbook is a reference, and may be utilized at any time.  These are the items they should have with them every day

I am the Hawk, one-sixteenth Cherokee and one sixteenth Iowa.  I am C. C. Law, seven-eighth of a variety of European cultures.  I am 100% American, from the United States of America.  I am a multi-cultural person, but most of all, I am a citizen of the United States of America, and it receives my only allegiance.  I graduated from high school at Hackett, Arkansas, received a B. A. in Political Science and History from Arkansas Polytechnic College, and an M. Ed. in Physical Education from the University of Arkansas.  I have done additional work at Southwest Missouri State University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and Kansas State University.  I am an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, and have 28 years of teaching experience (including coaching), and 12 years in the business world, working in a variety of capacities.  I teach from the perspective of my own experience, and use examples frequently from that background of experience, which has been widely varied.

My hobbies include weightlifting (I compete in men’s age group competition in Olympic Weightlifting and currently compete in the USAW Masters Weightlifting organization---94Kg Division, Men 60-64), gardening (organic), reading, writing, metal detecting, and a broad variety of other interests from time to time.

I am very serious about the work I do to help your child receive an education.  In the final analysis though, I can guide, discipline, and direct, but each of us must learn for ourselves.  I am a teacher, but I am also a student.  I learn something new virtually every day, and I hope your student’s experience in my classroom will inspire them to do the same.

PLANT A TREE……..IT’S A SIMPLE ANSWER TO GLOBAL-WARMING……..WE ALL NEED TO THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF PEOPLE INHABITING OUR PLANET!!!!!

Quiet, quiet, ever so quiet

Peaceful, peaceful, so quiet and peaceful

Gentle, gentle, moving so gently

Quietly, peacefully, gently I conquer.

The essence of BALANCE is found in the polar extremes.
