Coffeyville Drum and Bugle Corps

The Coffeyville Drum and Bugle Corps reunion was held September 9th - 11th, 2005.  The classes represented in this reunion ranged from when it was first organized in 1934 to when it was disbanded in 1986.

The events kicked off Friday night at the Field Kindley High School football game.  A skybox was rented for the gathering where over 130 people attended.  The room was full of laughter, reminiscing, and picture taking.

Saturday's events made for a full day.  Most gathered with their respective classmates for lunch, and some even got in a little practice time for a refresher course on marching.  That afternoon was spent decorating the Coffeyville Community College Student Union in preparation for the banquet that evening.  Many took advantage of looking through the memorabilia on display.

The banquet was a huge success with over 230 people attending.  Several of the Drum Corps members spoke of their days marching and of the late Harvey Lewis, director, who also became known to many as "Papa Lewis".  One presentation was made to Dorothy Armstrong Bonham (1936), the only member attending the reunion from the charter Corps.  Another presentation was made to Dorothy Walton Louden (1936) , the senior Drum Major in attendance.  After the program was completed, a "journey to the gym" followed.  Numerous members from a wide range of years met at the FKHS gym in an "attempt" to march.  The sound of Power House could be heard from the purple and gold kazoos that were provided to aid the bugle players.  The weekend event ended with a brunch Sunday morning at the Sirloin Stockade.

The committee will be meeting again in the near future to discuss plans for the next reunion.  We hope everyone will be able to attend!
