Chorus is a mixed choir that is open to all FKHS students, but is primarily a freshman level class. The purpose of this choir is to learn basic music skills, which would be helpful for future participation in Soundwave and/or Tornado Singers. Skills dealt with include aspects of technique – posture, breathing, intonation, and diction – as well as sight singing and theory. A variety of musical styles are performed, including foreign language songs. No audition is required but a student should be able to sing a simple melody. There are 3-4 required performances during the year.
Field Kindley Soundwave is an ensemble dedicated to musical excellence. A wide variety of music is performed ranging from classical to pop, madrigals to show choir. Choreography is a part of Soundwave. There are numerous performances throughout the year – including clinics and contest, and students will be expected to perform as opportunities arise. Performance dress is required. Enrollment is by audition only. Prior participation in Tornado Singers or Chorus is advised.
Tornado Singers is an advance mixed choir that performs a wide variety of musical styles ranging from classical to pop. Emphasis is on improving musicianship and vocal technique started in Chorus. There are several required performances throughout the year. Enrollment is by audition only, and limited to sophomores, juniors and seniors.
