Posted by Amanda Mitchell on 10/15/2018Please mark your calendars!
For students in Mrs. McClellan's, Mr. McFall's, or Mrs. Hayes' class, their music program has been scheduled for Monday, November 12. The performance will begin at 7:00 PM in the CES Multipurpose Room. Doors will open at 6:30 and students will need to be in the music room by 6:45.
The title of the program is "Americans We" and will be a Veteran's Day program honoring our local heroes. Students are asked to wear something red, white, and/or blue, or military-style camouflage (please no hunting camo) in honor of our veterans.
If you know someone who is a veteran, please invite them to our concert. The students are looking forward to sharing their hard work with as many military veterans as possible.

Recorders!
Posted by Amanda Mitchell on 1/29/2018 12:30:00 PMRecorder money has mostly been turned into the music teachers. If you haven't turned yours in yet, please do that as soon as possible. All students will need recorders for the remainder of the year and the toys sold at Walmart or a dollar store will simply not work. The $5 we are requesting gets your student a quality instrument at a bulk-purchase price.
Students will also receive a book with their recorders (even if they are using a sibling's recorder) and are expected to practice at home on a regular basis.

3rd Graders Featured in Quaver's Digital Field Trip

Third grade students from Mr. Gullick, Mrs. Smith, and Ms. Caviness' classes were challenged with learning the choreography to the song "Almost Summertime," one of the "songs of the month" in Mrs. Mitchell's music class. Once the dance was learned, it was recorded by student volunteers and submitted to Quaver's Marvelous World of Music. This music program is used by teachers all over the country and all over the world as part of their schools' music curriculum. Community Elementary School has been using the program for 2 years. This high-energy, fast-paced, all-engaging program has become a favorite for many students at the elementary school. On Tuesday, May 9, Quaver and his friends Austin Otto and Gwenda traveled with the student around the world on their annual "Digital Field Trip" to learn different dances around the world. Students learned the tango in Argentina, the kathak in India, and clogging in Appalachia. Then they "traveled" back home to watch a compilation video of different schools perform "Almost Summertime." Community Elementary School was 1 of 17 schools chosen to be a part of the video that has been seen by 50,000+ students around the world! The students are featured twice throughout the song (27:34 and 27:52), and can be viewed until the end of June.Congratulations to Mrs. Mitchell and the 3rd grade students!Click here to view the viedo:
