With the current design, will the hallways be large enough to move all of the students/staff to the FEMA rated storm shelter?
Yes. The architects use a formula to calculate the number of people and the distance to travel to make it to a shelter in under 5 minutes, which is the FEMA recommended time.

Is the estimated cost savings from the reduction in maintenance expenses factored into the cash flow of the project?
The cost savings for the district would come from the replacement of the original plumbing and updates/replacement to the HVAC system.

How much will this cost me? "UPDATED"

How is the money being spent?
Although each school facility will benefit to some degree, the majority of the bonds are being spent at the high school and middle school as they are in the greatest need. Click the question for more information.

What is the current mill rate for the school district and how does it compare to other districts?

When will construction begin?
After successful passage of the bond, construction should begin around April of 2020. The project would be scheduled for completion around December of 2022 for both question 1 and question 2 construction.

When will the district start paying on the new bonds?
The bonds would most likely be issued later in the year to minimize interest rate risk. The first payment on the bonds would be in 2021.

How will the new bonds be wrapped with the old bonds?
With approval by voters of the proposed bond issue, bonds will be issued to provide funding for the construction of the project. The new bonds will be issued with a 20 year term at an estimated average interest rate ... Click on the question for more detailed information.

Can the school bond issue be used for salaries?
No. Under state statute, bond issues are levied for facility improvements only.

Are the architects being paid before the passage of the school bond?
No. The architects will be paid only after a successful passage of the school bond on September 6th.

Will every student have access to a FEMA tornado shelter?
Yes. Currently, ELC and CES have FEMA shelters. The middle and high schools do not. This will provide the middle and high schools with a FEMA shelter. Click on the question for more information.
