My name is Tara Thompson. I am so excited to be joining the administration team at Community Elementary as the 3-4 Assistant principal.

I am a graduate of Field Kindley High School and a Coffeyville Community College Alumni. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Masters in Building Leadership from Pittsburg State University. I spent my first 10 years as an elementary teacher at Community Elementary. During this time, I taught 6th, 5th, and 3rd grade.

I took a few years away from teaching to stay at home with my two children; Gavin, 9 and Macy, 7.

After my time away, I returned back to the education world where I was building test coordinator, social emotional instructor (K-6) and a part of the building and district leadership team in Caney, KS for 3 years.

Last year, I was given the opportunity to rejoin my hometown district as the test coordinator and RTI/ Data Instructor for Community Elementary.

I couldn’t be more excited to continue my journey here as an administrator. It is an honor to be given the opportunity to work along side the best educators, the greatest students, and the wonderful families of Coffeyville.
